Why Reputation is not at the Top of the List

What is character?

It is who we are when no one is watching, what we do when we think no one will know what we are doing. Can you think of a more important quality for us to have as employees, friends, and as people?

Now what about integrity?

Integrity is more about how consistent we are with our character. This is about doing the right thing all the time, not just when we stand to benefit from it.

Ok, but what about my reputation?

Reputation is what others think of you, but this may or may not be accurate. There is a saying that I really like:

“Character is of more importance than reputation, period.”

Don’t sacrifice your character or integrity to have a better reputation.

“Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.” – John Wooden
