“In any team sport, the best teams have consistency and chemistry.”
~ Roger Staubach
What makes many world record holders and professional athletes famous?
Often we are able to do the same things that they can do. For example, did you know that I can swim as fast as Michael Phelps…
…for about 1 second?
But when I get tired or give up, he keeps going.
Consider the concept of “world class service” for example: What makes companies like Lexus, Ritz Carlton, and Disney the very best?
They may do more than everyone else when it comes to customer service, but vital to the success is this: consistency.
You cannot be the best if you are not consistent.
Nike may say: “Just do it.”
I say “Keep doing it.”
I love this post Jonathan. The difference between greatness and mediocrity it that push to keep going even when it’s painful or we’re not “good.” There will come a point where we break through the wall after all of the preparation and practice.
So true Joe. Often success is just holding on a little bit longer.
Great reminder and simply stated. This caused me to wonder how many times I’ve given up when, with one more swimming stroke or one more hour of effort, I might have broken through.
Thanks
I have often wondered this myself. Let us not grow weary of doing good! I remind myself of the purpose of what ever I am doing to keep me going. I am interested in hearing what works for you.
What works for me is being absolutely convinced that I am engaged in my purpose or calling. I believe God has called me to encourage others. To inspire people to find and develop His purpose for their lives and to be their cheer-leader. While it’s not always easy (there are bumps in the road), I live with the reminder that “ALL things work together for good…” I looked up the word all as it’s used in this passage and it actually means… ALL.
Great perspective Jonathan! Those who win keep going and moving forward.
ps. I just found and really like your blog. Looking forward to connecting and learning from you.
Thanks Dan – your comment reminds me of the saying: “Don’t fear moving slowly, fear not moving at all.”
Great saying! Glad I found your blog.
